Graduations are commencing, the weather is warming, and the birds are singing, which can only mean one thing – it’s Wedding Season! Friends, family, co-workers, and that girl who always seems to be in front of you in line at the coffee shop all love tying the knot in the summer, and who could blame them? But while some people have been planning their perfect wedding from the moment they figured out what a wedding is, that is not always the case. So what about the brides and grooms who haven’t worked out all the details just yet? Chances are you know at least one person who is drowning in wedding magazines with no clue where to start. Luckily for them, though, they have you. And luckily for you, you have us. So to help you ‘save the date’ for your bride or groom in need, Creative Cuisine has compiled the following list of some of the hottest wedding trends hitting the aisle this year.
Radiant Orchid – Pantone’s 2014 Color of the Year, and the perfect color palette base to begin your aesthetic theme. Think flowers, bridesmaid dresses, radiant orchid frosting, table runners, etc.
Rustic Chic – He’s a little bit country, she’s a little bit “Camping? Outdoors? No, thank you, I must graciously decline”. Enter the rustic chic theme. We’re talking burlap table runners, farmhouse tables, lush wildflower bouquets, chalkboards, and lots of elegant natural elements. This theme allows for a formal occasion to feel casual, yet romantic and intimate. It is also a great choice for the eco-conscious couple as decor is inspired by recycled barrels, jars, wooden frames, and even recycled paper for invitations. Rustic chic loves you, environment!
Street Food – Yes, it is kind of a revolution and it is becoming hugely popular as an instrument to add the element of casualty to a more formal occasion, or as a unique late-night snack option. Hire out your favorite food truck for a couple of hours at the end of the evening, or choose a street food station to pump out authentic carnitas tacos, made-to-order crepes, or an eclectic DIY hot dog station. Speaking of hot dogs…
Nostalgic Comfort Foods – are all the rage for any event you could find yourself at this year and on into next. Think butlered miniature chicken and waffles, bacon cheddar deviled eggs, or grilled cheese and tomato soup shooters. With an elegant presentation and chic flavorings, these treats go from casual comforts to sophisticated selections fit for even the most formal of evenings.
Morning Weddings – Often an economically-friendly alternative to an evening affair, morning weddings also provide the opportunity to explore the somewhat-untapped potential of the extravagant wedding brunch. Replacing the traditional wedding cake with tiers of donuts or pancakes, providing a Made-to-Order Waffle or Omelette Station (always a huge hit, by the way!), or offering guests an “all-the-fixins” Mimosa Bar as a classy morning alternative of the traditional full bar. Not to mention, a morning wedding allows for a free afternoon to nap up and rally for a more intimate bash with the bridal party that evening. Check out our Pinterest board for more inspiration:
The Naked Cake – Icing and fondant is so last season. The naked cake is prepared just as a traditional wedding cake, but with the forgoing of the outer layer of buttercream to give a more – you guessed it – rustic chic flare to the cake’s aesthetics. This is also ideal for calorie-counters or for outdoor summer weddings in which heat + excessive sugar = unhappy tummies. Also, it just looks really cool.
Family Style – Reviving a classic service technique, family style refers to the presentation of food to each table in the form of large platters intended for diners to pass around, taking food in the portions in which they desire. Typically associated with Italian cuisine, family style is becoming popular with a wide variety of culinary selections including barbeque and southern-style comfort foods. This style of service promotes conversation and is especially ideal for a seating-chart-centered reception in which not all guests may know each other.
So, there you have it. The most popular wedding trends for 2014-2015. Now get out there and start planning that perfect rustic-chic-themed morning wedding with radiant orchid floral accents, serving family-style chicken and waffles, complemented by a naked cake for dessert. Actually, that sounds really fun. Please let me know if anyone needs a ‘plus 1’ to that wedding. Can’t wait!
